This week we are featuring Ricketts Glen State Park. A beautiful place among the mountains of Luzerne, Columbia and Sullivan counties, Ricketts Glen has many miles of hiking trails ranging from easy to very difficult.
We recently took a trip to the park to hike the Falls Trail. Being one of the most difficult trails in the area it can be a real challenge even for avid hikers. The trail is not to be underestimated but is definitely a must see.
Many of the trees in this magnificent park are over 500 years old, ring counts on fallen trees show ages of around 900 years old. The Falls Trail spans over 7 miles and loops past both parts of Kitchen Creek and takes you up close to 21 named waterfalls ranging in height from 11ft to 94ft. Kitchen Creek spills over many smaller waterfalls that are not named and the lush forest provides a beautiful setting.
Ozone Falls, seen here is spectacular, one of our favorites.

Ganoga Falls is the tallest in the park and one of the tallest we have ever seen in person.

One of the first falls we came to, Onondaga really impresses.
