Hiking/Camping Necessities

Whenever you go hiking you should always make sure you pack some essential items in case the need arises. With luck, you’ll never need most of them, but you certainly don’t want to be without them if you need them. The items in your hiking pack may vary depending on how far from home you plan to be but it’s never a bad idea to be prepared for the worst.

Some things we suggest taking along include:

  • Cell Phone
  • First-Aid Kit
  • Flashlight
  • Food
  • Insect Repellent
  • Map & Compass
  • Utility Tool
  • Signal Mirror
  • Spare Vehicle Key
  • Sunglasses & Sunscreen
  • Water
  • Waterproof matches
  • Waterproof windbreaker
  • Whistle

You may want to carry other things based on where you plan to be and the weather but these basic items will cover a lot of the problems you may face while traveling.

Along with these items we also recommend wearing a long sleeve shirt and long pants to protect you from ticks and other threats. You might also want to wear hiking boots to protect your ankle from twists and sprains should you fall as well as snake bites.
